Re: Band survey plugin for OpenWebRX+ multi-tab scanner, range sweep, bookmarks & audio clips

Hi all,

I’ve pushed a big Toolbox update on GitHub (main, build v965). Last public tag many of you are still on is v440. A lot has landed in between, and I’d really like a few people to try this on their own OpenWebRX+ receivers and tell me what may be broken or confusing.

Repo: https://github.com/G4EA5/openwebrx-toolbox

Install (no installer script)
Edit plugins/receiver/init.js on the radio host. Easiest is CDN:

(async () => {
await Plugins.load("https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/G4EA5/openwebrx-toolbox@main/toolbox.js");
})();

Hard-refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R / Cmd+Shift+R), click Toolbox, then Settings → Check install.

If you want the old v440 build, it’s in a folder on main:
https://github.com/G4EA5/openwebrx-toolbox/tree/main/v440
(or the existing toolbox-v440 tag / release). Same manual install, different files.

What’s new since v440 (the useful bits)

New tabs

  • Identify – guesses signal type from the waterfall (not callsigns). Optional DIY URL Extra if you run your own classifier.
  • Log – decoder feed, QSO pad (ADIF), callsign list with lookup.
  • Watch – alert on callsign / flight / ship / talkgroup; Groups (HF / Digi / Air / …) with Arm on/off; Snooze.
  • More – DX cluster + Satellites (Doppler follow). On by default, sits between Skip and Set.

Explore

  • Free-layout boxes (drag titles, resize edges). Tune stays pinned with freq, small audio FFT, analogue S-meter.
  • Nest scan, Jump loudest (off on wide FM unless you turn on the experimental Extra), Reject birdie, OWRX/Ch step chip, hardware gain where OpenWebRX allows it, waterfall PNG shot.
  • Layout reset if boxes look wrong: Settings → Reset Explore layout.

Bands / Range / Skip

  • Bands list is presets + the tick list (scroll for every profile). Beacons, solar, today, edit, schedule, packs.
  • Range is one pane: full range / ticked bands / Jump loudest / choose profile, hop & grid, spectrum chart under the controls.
  • Scan skips (skip digital bookmarks + block MHz) live on the Skip tab (and still on Range), not buried in the bands list.

Audio / Bookmarks / Peaks / Analyzer

  • Audio clips, record busy, receiver audio filters; optional STT webhook Extra (your own URL).
  • Bookmark colours documented; Peaks table / heatmap Extra / exports.
  • Analyzer still there; movable boxes; on by default under Visible tabs (you can hide it).

Settings / public / Help

  • Public / shared receiver + visitor allowlist for shared sites.
  • Panel scale (default 100%).
  • Hover tips + ? on boxed sections and sub-tabs.
  • Manual install only. Check install points at GitHub; no zip download from Settings.

Full notes: CHANGELOG.md and docs/CHANGES-v440-to-v960.md in the repo.

Testers wanted

If you’ve got OpenWebRX+ and a few minutes:

  1. Load v965 (or main CDN as above).
  2. Hard-refresh, Check install (green is good).
  3. Click through the tabs, try a short band or range scan, poke Explore layout, Watch if you use decoders.
  4. Tell me what fails, what’s unclear, or what you miss from v440.

Pi / small PC: fine as the radio host; if the browser also runs on a weak Pi, keep Extras lean and skip heavy stuff while idle. Notes are in the README / Help.
