L’attesa sta diventando spasmodica. Tanto che oggi il nome di Paul Seixas è già sulla homepage del sito dell’Equipe, sotto solamente alla diretta del Gp di Formula 1. Il 19enne di Lione è la grande speranza del ciclismo d’oltralpe: su di lui pesano tutte le aspettative, il sogno di tornare presto a rivedere un francese vincere il Tour. Per questo adesso la Francia è in ansia per le condizioni del suo giovane talento: Seixas si è ritirato dall’ultima tappa del Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, l’ex Giro del Delfinato.

Il fattaccio è avvenuto ieri, sabato 13 giugno, durante la tappa del Grand Colombier. Seixas è caduto malamente in discesa, poi ha fatto un mezzo miracolo per rientrare, ma nell’ultima salita è crollato per lo sforzo eccessivo e ha pagato 1’21” dal vincitore Isaac Del Toro. Oggi ha provato a onorare la corsa, ma si è dovuto arrendere dopo 34 km: già faceva fatica a stare a ruota sul Col du Pré. Segno che comunque la botta ha lasciato delle conseguenze.

L’ammiraglia della Decathlon ha deciso di fermare Seixas, per evitare altri danni. Certo, all’inizio del Tour de France mancano ancora tre settimane: la cronosquadre di Barcellona che apre la Grande Boucle 2026 è in programma sabato 4 luglio, c’è tempo per recuperare. Nel ciclismo attuale, dove la preparazione è cruciale e viene curato sotto ogni aspetto, anche un piccolo imprevisto però può avere degli effetti evidenti sulle prestazioni. In Francia tutti sperano che Seixas possa fin da subito battagliare con Tadej Pogacar e Jonas Vingegaard per la maglia gialla. Può realisticamente, essendo la sua prima esperienza, potrà puntare al podio, che sarebbe già un risultato enorme. Intanto però deve pensare a guarire. E anche questa sarà una prima volta, dopo una primavera di risultati strabilianti in cui tutto era filato per il verso giusto.
